# Install the CLI

`ezgh` runs on macOS, Linux and Windows, on amd64 (x86-64) and arm64. It's a single binary with no dependencies.

## Install with the installer

### macOS and Linux

```sh
curl -fsSL https://get.ezghcloud.com | sh
```

The same script is at `https://get.ezghcloud.com/install.sh`. The installer puts `ezgh` in `/usr/local/bin` when you can write to it, otherwise in `~/.local/bin`, and tells you if that directory isn't on your `PATH`. It never uses `sudo`. It works in `sh`, `bash` and BusyBox, and needs `curl` or `wget`, and `sha256sum` or `shasum`.
### Windows

In PowerShell:

```powershell
irm https://get.ezghcloud.com/cli.ps1 | iex
```

The installer puts `ezgh.exe` in `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\ezgh` and adds that directory to your user `PATH`. Open a new terminal to use it.

The installer downloads the latest release for your system, checks it against the release's SHA-256 checksums, and installs nothing if it doesn't match. Running it again updates `ezgh`.

| Variable | Effect |
| --- | --- |
| `EZGH_VERSION` | Install this version, such as `0.1.0`, instead of the latest |
| `EZGH_INSTALL_DIR` | Install into this directory |

```

## Download a release

Each release is at `https://get.ezghcloud.com/ezgh/v<version>/`, and `https://get.ezghcloud.com/ezgh/latest` holds the latest version number. [get.ezghcloud.com](https://get.ezghcloud.com) links the latest release's archives.

| macOS, Apple silicon | `ezgh_<version>_darwin_arm64.tar.gz` |
| macOS, Intel | `ezgh_<version>_darwin_amd64.tar.gz` |
| Linux, arm64 | `ezgh_<version>_linux_arm64.tar.gz` |
| Linux, x86-64 | `ezgh_<version>_linux_amd64.tar.gz` |
| Windows, arm64 | `ezgh_<version>_windows_arm64.zip` |
| Windows, x86-64 | `ezgh_<version>_windows_amd64.zip` |

Each archive holds the `ezgh` binary (`ezgh.exe` on Windows) and a README. `checksums.txt` in the same directory lists each archive's SHA-256 checksum.

1. Download the archive for your system and `checksums.txt`:

   ```sh
   version=$(curl -fsSL https://get.ezghcloud.com/ezgh/latest)
   curl -fsSLO "https://get.ezghcloud.com/ezgh/v$version/ezgh_${version}_linux_amd64.tar.gz"
   curl -fsSLO "https://get.ezghcloud.com/ezgh/v$version/checksums.txt"
   ```

2. Check the archive against its checksum:

   ```sh
   grep " ezgh_${version}_linux_amd64.tar.gz\$" checksums.txt | sha256sum -c -
   ```

   On macOS, use `shasum -a 256 -c -` instead of `sha256sum -c -`.

3. Unpack it and move `ezgh` to a directory on your `PATH`:

   ```sh
   tar -xzf "ezgh_${version}_linux_amd64.tar.gz" ezgh
   mv ezgh ~/.local/bin/
   ```

## Check the installation

```sh
ezgh version
```

```text
ezgh <version> (commit <commit>, built <date>, <Go version> <system>/<architecture>)
```

Then [log in](/cli/authentication).

## Shell completion

`ezgh completion` prints a completion script for bash, zsh, fish or PowerShell. For zsh:

```sh
ezgh completion zsh > "${fpath[1]}/_ezgh"
```
