# ezgh update

{/* Generated by ezgh-cli's internal/tools/clidocs from the ezgh command tree. Don't edit: change the command's help in ezgh-cli and regenerate. */}

```sh
ezgh update [--version v] [--check] [--auto on|off] [flags]
```

Update ezgh to the latest release, the way the installer does: the release for this system from get.ezghcloud.com, checked against the release's checksums, replacing this ezgh in one step. The new version must start and report its version before it's installed.

At most once a day, a command run in a terminal also checks for a new version and, after its output, says when one is available. It doesn't check in CI (when CI is set), when standard error isn't a terminal, or when `EZGH_NO_UPDATE_NOTIFIER` is set. With `--auto` on, it installs the new version then instead.

Whether updates are automatic, and when ezgh last checked, are kept in update.json in the configuration directory.

## Examples

```sh
ezgh update                  # install the latest version
ezgh update --check          # say whether there's a newer version
ezgh update --version 0.1.0  # install this version, older or newer
ezgh update --auto on        # install new versions automatically
```

## Flags

| Flag | Type | Default | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `--auto` | string | | on: install new versions automatically; off: say when one is available |
| `--check` | boolean |  | only say whether a newer version is available |
| `--version` | string |  | install this version instead of the latest, e.g. 0.1.0 |

This command also takes the [global flags](/cli/reference#global-flags).
