# ezgh workflows runs start

{/* Generated by ezgh-cli's internal/tools/clidocs from the ezgh command tree. Don't edit: change the command's help in ezgh-cli and regenerate. */}

```sh
ezgh workflows runs start <workflow> [--app a] [--input json|@file|-] [--run-key k] [flags]
```

Start a run of one of an app's workflows (`--app`, by ID, slug or name; it may be left out when the project has one app), with `--input` as its input: a JSON value, @file.json, or - for stdin (at most 1 MiB).

`--run-key` makes the start idempotent: a second start with the same key, workflow and input answers the run the first one started, and with a different workflow or input it's refused (run_key_conflict).

Part of [`ezgh workflows runs`](/cli/reference/workflows-runs).

## Examples

```sh
ezgh workflows runs start onboard --app web --input '{"userId": 42}'
ezgh workflows runs start nightly-report --input @params.json --run-key report-2026-10-11
```

## Flags

| Flag | Type | Default | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `--app` | string | | the app, by ID, slug or name (default: the project's only app) |
| `--input` | string |  | the run's input: a JSON value, @file, or - for stdin |
| `--run-key` | string |  | an idempotency key for the run, up to 128 of A-Z a-z 0-9 . \_ : - |

This command also takes the [global flags](/cli/reference#global-flags).
